Ruling Awami League (AL) yesterday announced the names of 22 more secretaries of its new central working committee. Of them, the party announced the names of eight organising secretaries and 14 departmental secretaries. The newly elected AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader came up with the disclosure at a press briefing at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital yesterday.
Earlier, the party president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday, the second day of the AL’s 20th national council, announced the names of 16 presidium members, four joint general secretaries and one treasurer of her party’s new executive body. According to the new constitution of AL, there shall be 81 members in its central working committee, the party’s highest policy making body. Among them, 19 are presidium members, 34 secretaries and 28 members of the central working committee. The eight organising secretaries are—Ahmed Hossain, Misbah Uddin Siraj, BM Mozammel Haque, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Enamul Haque Shamim, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan and Barrister Muhibul Hasan Chowdhury, son of former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation.
The seven organising secretaries were in the previous central committee and one post for Muhibul Hasan Chowdhury was added.
Besides, 14 holders of secretarial posts are finance and planning affairs secretary Tipu Munshi, law affairs secretary Abdul Matin Khasru, Information and research affairs secretary Adv. Afzal Hossain, Relief and social welfare affairs secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, religious affair secretary Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, publicity and publication affairs secretary Hasan Mahmud, women affairs secretary Fazilatunnesa Indira, Liberation War affairs secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, education and human resources affairs secretary Shamsun Nahar Chapa, industry and commerce secretary Mohammad Abdus Satter, labour and manpower affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, cultural affair secretary Asim Kumar Ukil and health and population affairs secretary dr. Rokeya Sultana. Asim Kumar Ukil and Mrinal Kanti Das earlier served as deputy publicity and publication secretary and deputy office secretary respectively and they got promotions in the present committee. The newly elected party presidium member will sit in a meeting at the prime minister’s official residence Ganabhaban in the capital on Friday evening where the names of the remaining leaders will be finalised, Quader said at the press conference. The party joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dipu Moni, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman and others were present in the press conference. Members of the newly appointed central committee under the leadership of party president Sheikh Hasina also placed wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhamomndi in the capital.
