The third meeting of South Asia Wildlife Enforcement (SAWEM) begins in the capital today aiming to enhance collaboration with regional and international organisations to combat wildlife crimes, reports UNB.
Bangladesh Forest Department under the Ministry of Environment and Forests will organise the two-day meeting at Hotel Le Méridien.
Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju and Deputy Minister for Environment and Forests Abdullah Al Islam Jakob will be present at the inaugural session of the meeting.
Representatives from different government agencies of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be present at the meeting apart from representatives from stakeholders like CITES, Interpol, GTF, UNODC, WWF, USAID, GIZ and the World Bank.
Two representatives from Dhaka-based Wildteam will join the meeting.
SAWEN is an intergovernmental wildlife law enforcement support body of South Asian countries represented by Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
SAWEN was launched in 2011 during the second meeting of the South Asian Experts group on illegal wildlife trade in Bhutan.
