Woman beaten dead by husband
SAVAR: A school teacher was beaten to death allegedly by her husband over a family feud in Anandapur City Lane area of Savar municipality on the outskirts of the capital on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Asma Afrin Mitu, 28, a teacher of Dhaka Cantonment School and College and wife of Murad Miah. They lived in a rented house in the capital.
Quoting family members, police said Murad married Mitu one year ago. Mitu along with her husband went to visit her father Altaf Hossains house in Anandapur City Lane area a few days ago.
On Monday night, Mitu and Murad locked in an altercation following a family feud and at one stage, Murad beat her up mercilessly, leaving her critically injured. Later, he hanged the body with the ceiling of the house to make it appear like a suicide. As the family members sensed the trouble, they took her to Enam Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Meanwhile, locals caught Murad as he tried to flee the scene and informed police.
They handed him over to police after giving him a good thrashing. Assistant superintendent of police Mahabubur Rahman confirmed the incident. A case was filed in this connection.
