Ensure reproductive health rights for all, say speakers

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a dialogue with media people here yesterday called for ensuring reproductive health rights to all schoolboys and girls for the sake of transforming them into worthy citizens, reports BSS. They said many of the rural boys and girls are still deprived of sexual reproductive health facilities due to various reasons, including the traditional social mindset and constraints of the service-sectors. Local branch of Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB) under its ASET Project organised the dialogue styled “Protects Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights” held at its office yesterday.
FPAB District Officer Arun Kumar Shill, Project Coordinator Mostafizur Rahman, Assistant District Officer Mizanur Rahman and Finance Coordinator Akhtaruzzaman addressed the programme as focal persons.
They told the journalists that the ASET project intends to make the adolescents and young people empowered on choices and decisions to enjoy mutually satisfying and safe relationship, free from coercion or violence without fear of infection or pregnancy. They said getting facility is one of their fundamental rights of all irrespective of class and creed as the state is bound to provide the services properly. To attain the cherished goal, a collaborative initiative coupled with political commitment has become indispensable.
Upon its successful implementation, the project will contribute to improve Sexual and reproductive health education in school by increasing teachers’ skills on sexuality communication and mobilizing stakeholders. It will also review National Curriculum and Textbook Board and teachers’ training curriculum and arrange dialogue with them to make necessary correction to make them acceptable by the teachers, parents and others.
