Worker dies falling from under-construction building
Sherpur: A construction worker died after falling from an under-construction building of Sherpur Zila Hospital in the district town yesterday morning, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Sadiqul Islam, 24, son of Mafiz Uddin, a resident of Enayetpur village in Gomastapur upazila of Chapainawabganj district. Local people said Sadiqul fell off a six-storey under-construction building of the hospital while working in it around 7.30am and received serious injuries. Later, he was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him dead. Doctor Mobarak Hossain, resident medical officer of the hospital, confirmed this.
Toddler electrocuted
Munshiganj: A minor was electrocuted in Maddhopara village of Sirajdikhan upazila on Saturday, reports UNB. The victim was Rihan, 2, son of Sumon of the village. Upazila Health Official Dulal Hossain said the boy was electrocuted in the family house at 10am. Relatives took him to the hospital at 11am where doctors declared him dead. Eight shops gutted MADARIPUR: At least eight shops were gutted as a fire broke out at Mustafapur market in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS. Fire brigade sources said, the fire originated from an electronics shop of the market at about 9 am and soon engulfed the adjacent shops. But, no casualties were reported in the blaze. Sources said, two units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.
Two killed in road accidents

Two persons were killed in separate road accidents yesterday. In Dinajpur, a housewife was killed at Champatoli on the Dinajpur-Rangpur highway under Chirirbandar upazila.The deceased was identified as Joynab Banu, 23, a resident of Bhusirbandar area of the upazila. Police said the accident occurred when a bus hit a rickshaw van at about 10 am, leaving the rickshaw van passenger Joynab critically injured. Local people sent Joynab to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries in the afternoon.
In Jhenaidah, a man was killed and two others injured when a motorbike hit them near Baraipara in Sailkupa upazila yesterday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Dulal Uddin Shah, 55, of Chandipur village of the upazila.
Youth held with fake currency

Police arrested a young man in possession of 26 fake currency notes amounting to Tk 26,000 from Chandra Bazar in Sadar upazila on Saturday. The arrestee was identified as Ripon, 24, a resident of Choto Laxmipur village in Haimchar upazila of the district. Sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station Rafiqul Islam said local people challenged Ripon when he gave a fake note of Tk 1,000 denomination to a shop owner at about 5:30pm. Later, 25 more forged notes of Tk 1,000 denomination were recovered after searching his body. On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Ripon. A case was filed in this connection.
2 children drown in pond

Two children drowned in a pond at Putimara village under Belabo upazila yesterday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Abir, 4, son of Mamun Mia and Mahram Ali, 5, son of Hasan Ali of the village. Badrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Belabo Police Station, said the boys were playing near a pond at about 4.30 pm. All of a sudden, Abir fell into the pond. Mahram jumped into water to save Abir. Hearing their screams, villagers rushed to the spot and rescued them. They were sent to Belabo health complex where attending doctor declared them dead.
1 held for child marriage offence
BRAHMANBARIA: A mobile court here yesterday held the father of an underage daughter for arranging her marriage at Badayharia village under Bijoynagar upazila of the district, reports BSS. Sources concerned said Manik Miah, 45, arranged the wedding of Asma Begum, 16, a student of class 10. Being informed, the mobile court led by Bijoynagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Akhterunnesa Sheuly reached the village and foiled the wedding. The court detained Manik for committing the child marriage offence.
Selling of Boro seed begins GAIBANDHA: Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) started selling different varieties of quality Boro seeds at fair price, reports BSS. BADC allotted 680 tons of Boro seeds to sell among the farmers through its three sale centres located at district town, Palashbari and Gobindaganj upazila towns. Farmers are purchasing the seeds from the sale centers of the BADC with much confidence to get desired output. A sack of seed of BR-14, BRRI Dhan-28 and BRRI Dhan-29 weighing 10 kgs is being sold from the centres at Tk 350 and hybrid SL-8H at Tk 1,900, said an official of the BADC office here.
Till Saturday, as many as 50 tonnes of quality seed of Boro paddy had already been sold through the centres, he also said.
Senior assistant director of BADC M Mazharul Islam said quality seeds of wheat, mustard and winter vegetables were also on sales at fair prices.
