Man dies falling from bus roof
A construction worker died after falling from the roof of a moving bus at Fakirpara Dhalan on Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway on Saturday evening.
The deceased was identified as Tofazzal Hossain, 40, son of late Nazim Uddin, a resident of Chapainawabganj district. Witnesses said Tofazzal was returning home from Dhaka boarding on the roof of a bus of ‘New Rajshahi Delux Paribahan’ in the afternoon. When the bus reached Fakirpara Dhalan area, he fell off the roof of the bus after being hit by a roadside tree around 5:15pm and died on the spot. On information, police recovered his body.
Two killed in road accidents
Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in Rangpur on Saturday, police said.
Day-labourer Abdul Haque, 25, of village Sultan Nagar under Parbotipur upazila of Dinajpur was injured after falling from a truck at Mira Para point on the Dinajpur-Badarganj road here Saturday morning.
He was rushed to Badarganj Upazila Health Complex where attending physician declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Badarganj Thana Akhteruzzaman said that the body was handed over to his relatives. No case was filed, he added. In another accident, Programme Office of Mithapukur Branch of BRAC office Rabiul Islam, 25, was injured when a passenger bus hit his motorcycle at Gorermatha point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway under Mithapukur upazila here this evening.
Photo exhibition of 12 photographers begins
A four-day photography exhibition titled “Focus on Culture” began at the Drik Gallery in Dhanmondi on Sunday. Twelve enthusiastic young Bangladeshi photographers are exhibiting their inspiring photos in this exhibition being hosted by the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh. The photographs in the exhibition illustrate various perspectives on the role of culture in Bangladesh.
Highlighting the country’s multicultural identities and long traced tradition of tolerance, some photographs in the exhibition present the influence of different faiths and ethnic groups on the society. The exhibition is open for all from 3pm to 8pm.
Mobile court fines Tk 60,000
A mobile court of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) fined an ice-cream factory and a bakery Taka 60,000 and destroyed 300-kg substandard products in Alamnagar area of Rangpur city yesterday afternoon.
Executive Magistrate of RpCC SM Golam Kibria led the mobile court and conducted the anti-adulteration drives with assistance of Kotwali Thana police, said a press release.
The mobile court fined Fuji Milk Vita Ice-cream Factory Taka 40,000 for having no trade license and violating BSTI Ordinance, 1985 and Local Government's City Corporation Act, 2009 and destroyed 150-kg seized substandard ice-cream there.
