Senior journalist and 1971 Liberation War veteran Timir Lal Dutta died of a cardiac arrest at capital's BIRDEM hospital early today. He was 62, reports BSS.
"We rushed him to the BIRDEM hospital early in the morning as he complained of severe chest pain . . . doctors at the facility declared him dead," Dutta's daughter Mandira Dutta said. He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives, colleagues and admirers to mourn his death.
Dutta was a senior reporter of BSS from where he retired last month while he previously served in different national dailies including the Samokal and the Khabor.
A contingent of armed police offered him a guard of honour as a freedom fighter while an executive magistrate of Dhaka's deputy commissioner's office represented the government at the ceremony.
