SYLHET: Suspended mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Ariful Haque, who was undergoing treatment at Osmani Medical College Hospital, was sent back to Sylhet Central jail yesterday, reports UNB.
Jail Super Abdus Sagir Mia, said the doctors of the hospital released him as his physical condition got improved after treatment and then the jail authorities took him to the jail.
On September 26, Ariful Haque Chawdhury was admitted to the hospital as he fell sick in jail. Ariful fell sick due to high blood pressure and uncontrolled diabetes.
Ariful Haque Chawdhury is now behind the bar in former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case.
Five people, including Kibria, were killed and 70 others injured in a grenade attack on a public rally of local Awami League at Baidder Bazar in Sadar upazila on January 27, 2005.
Awami League leader Abdul Mazid Khan filed two cases-one for murder and another under the Explosives Substances Act-with the Habiganj police station the following day.
Assistant superintendent of CID Munshi Atique submitted a charge sheet against 10 BNP leaders and activists including Ariful on March 19, 2005. Sylhet Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on December 30, 2014 sent Ariful to jail after he appeared before it with a bail prayer in the cases.
