Roommate sent to jail over Lipu murder case

A student of Rajshahi University (RU) has been sent to jail yesterday for his alleged connection with Motaleb Hosaain Lipu killing.

Rajshahi Metropolitan court chief judge passed the order yesterday, said Investigation Officer (IO) Ashok Chawhan.
The arrestee was identified as Monirul Islam Monir, a second year student of Botany department of RU and also roommate of Lipu. He hailed Tanore upazila of Rajshai district.
On Thursday, police recovered the body of Motaleb Hosaain Lipu, from gutter beside Nabab Adul Latif residential hall. He was a 2nd year student MCJ under academic session 2013-2014 and also a residential student of room no. 253 of this hall, hailed from Mokimpur village under Horinakondo upazila of Jhenaidah district.
Dr. Anamul Hague, a senior teacher of Forensic Department of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) said, It seemed that Lipu died as he was brutally tortured behind his head by brick.
Deceased’s uncle Md. Bashir Molla said that Lipu took TK 20,000 from a group of competitive exam proxy forgery. But cops caught him (Lipu) red handed while he appeared at the examination.
Later, the court sent him to the jail for three months and got released in a bail few days ago. Later that group threatened him as he refused to appear in the proxy exam again.
Police thought that arrested roommate Monirul also a member of the gang, OC Chouhan added.
UNB adds: Besides, teachers and students of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Rajshahi University formed a human chain on the campus on Sunday demanding punishment of the killers of Motaleb Hossain Lipu. Campus sources said a group teachers and students of the department, under the banner of ‘Family of Mass Communication and Journalism Department’ formed the human chain on the campus around 10:30am demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the killers.
They also threatened to go for tougher movement if no visible steps are taken to arrest the killers within October 31.
