Cultivation of early varieties of winter vegetables has brought financial solvency to many farmers in different areas of the district in recent years.
The growers are also expecting a good yield this year due to a suitable weather condition.
According to Department of Agricultural Extension sources, farmers of the district have put in their best efforts this season to cultivate different kinds of winter vegetables including cauliflower, cabbage, gourd, bean, brinjal, tomato, radish and carrot. Some farmers have already started harvesting their produces and supplying those to different kitchen markets of the country, the sources added.
Mobarak Ali, a farmer of Debiduba village under Debiganj upazila, said he has cultivated early variety of cauliflower on 40 decimals of land this year and already made a profit of Tk15,000.
The cultivator said a number of growers in the area have achieved financial solvency by farming the early variety of cauliflower.
Department of Agricultural Extension sources said cultivation of early winter vegetables is gaining popularity in the district because of higher prices of the produces.
