Bangladesh’s fast bowling coach Courtney Walsh observed that his pace bowlers lacked control which is mandatory when they will play the Test cricket. He said it’s the area which should have to be corrected if Bangladesh want to get a decent fast bowling like they have in the limited over cricket.
Walsh indeed was given the charge to build up a high quality fast bowling group since Bangladesh aimed to prop up their game in longer version, a format in which they still find them in vulnerable position.
“I think they have the skills but we will work on it so that they have more control. The control wasn’t consistent, which to me was one thing that was lacking. But they are young and will get better,” he said.
“We have been working on that, but it will be difficult to hit it straight off if you haven’t played a lot in these conditions. They haven’t. Rabbi tried his best and it was working
for him a little bit. Shafiul can do it a little bit he probably didn’t bowl as long as he would have liked.”
But Walsh wasn’t disappointed the way the fast bowler operated in a wicket that has nothing encouraging for the pacer bowlers.
“I am not disappointed with them. I don’t think they got as much bowling in the game because of the experience. We have a debutant who is feeling his way out. I thought he bowled a lot better today. He got a chance to put in a very decent spell.”
“I think they have done well in this Test. Kamrul got a wicket which will give him confidence. He showed that he has something that we can work with, which is a very good sign. These tracks are not fast bowler friendly but the guys stuck to their guns and gave it all they have. They supported the captain every time they were asked for a spell. They tried.”
