4 hurt as house catches fire 
Four members of a family suffered burn injuries in a fire caused by gas leak at their residence in Jurain area of capital yesterday morning.
The injured were identified as Abul Kalam Azad, 40, his wife Jesmin Begum, 35, their son Md Rony, 13, and nephew Sharmin Akhter, 20. The fire broke out at their tin-shed house adjacent to Madina Mosque in Bour Bazar area around 8.30am, leaving them burn injured. Later they were admitted at the burn unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Worker killed in road crash
A garments worker was killed as a truck ran over her in Kunia-Taragach area in Gazipur city yesterday morning.
The deceased was Tania Akhter, 27, a local garments worker and wife of Safiul Islam, resident of Dulalpur village under Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi district. SI Abdus Salam of Naujor police camp said the accident occurred when a speedy truck hit Tania in the area at about 6 am while she was crossing the road. Critically injured Tania was sent to a local hospital where on duty doctor declared her dead.

Youth stabbed to death
A youth was stabbed to death allegedly by some of his neighbours at Gourangapur village under Tanore Upazila of the district yesterday, police sources said.
The deceased was identified as Rubel, 28, son of Abdur Rashid Master, resident of the same village. Mirja Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Tanore Police Station, told the journalists that some three people caught Rubel and stabbed him indiscriminately causing his instantaneous death around 7.30 am.

Three food shops fined 
Members of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined three food shops Taka 13,500 on charges of selling sub-standard foods in the district on Thursday.
A team of the DNCRP conducted a raid in Nawhata Bazar area under Paba upazila of the district and found the shops guilty of preparing, possessing and selling foods in unhygienic condition. The team fined the shops Taka 13,500 and realised the money from the shop owners on the spot.
