The authority of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Friday night expelled five Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of the university unit over beating up two newsmen in two separate incidents.
The decision came from an emergency syndicate meeting receiving two reports from the duos committee formed by the university authority to investigate into the incidents while VC Prof Farzana Islam in the chair. The punishment will enforce by June 26, 2016; JU Registrar Abu Bakr Siddique confirmed The Independent. The expelled BCL men are Mohitosh Roy Titu of History department for two years, Ikram Uddin Omi of Marketing department and Iqram Nahid of Statistics department for six months for the incident of beating Shafiqul Islam, JU Correspondent of bdnews24.com.
On the other hand, at the incident of beating Abu Raihan, JU Correspondent of bdpress.net, the expelled men are Sharif Hossain Laskar of Anthropology department for two years and Riyajul Islam of Bangla department for four months.
They were also declared ‘unwanted' on the campus by the university authority during the punishment period, added JU registrar. Among them, Titu is a religion affair secretary and Omi is an assistant secretary of JU BCL unit while Iqram, Laskar and Riyajul are activists.
At the same time, Baizid Islam, a final year student of Botany department was warned by a written statement. Earlier, on June 4, some BCL activists led by Laskar beat up Abu Raihan over a previous enmity, while Raihan was going to his relative’s house near Bismail area, said campus sources.
