A weeklong solo painting exhibition titled ‘Peace’ of artist Proshanta Karmakar Buddha will begin today at Shilpangan Gallery in the capital’s Dhanmondi area. Art connoisseur Rubana Huq will inaugurate the exhibition today at 6pm at the gallery premises. Presided over by poet, critic and architect Rabiul Hussain, art collector and curator Nabila Rahman will be present as special guest. Karmakar Buddha is a freelance painter, printmaker and photographer who has created his own style in art that is very modern and unique. His paintings have been exhibited numerous times. At least 18 solo and 85 selected national and international group exhibitions- ‘Light’, ‘Happy Life’ and ‘Open Door’ have been held. He received several national and international awards, namely, 1992- ‘Honorable mention’ 1st Alliance Francoise National, Dhaka, Bangladesh; 1991- Okamoto Prize by Asian Cultural Center for UNSESCO 16 photo contest in Asia and the Pacific, held in Tokyo, Japan; 1990- Best Award on Graphics at the 9th National young artists exhibition, Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka, Bangladesh; 1989-90 -five awards from the Bangladesh Photographic Society, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The exhibition will remain open to all every day from 12pm to 8pm, until October 27.
