Two schoolgirls drown
DINAJPUR: Two schoolgirls drowned in the Karotoa River at Atrai village in Parbatipur upazila yesterday, reports BSS.
The victims are Soma Akhter, a student of class ten and daughter of Babu Miah and Hamida Khatun, a student of class nine and daughter of Hamidul Haque, residents of the same area.
Officer-in-Charge of Parbatipur Police Station Mahamudul Alam said Soma and Hamida drowned in the river while taking bath at about 2.30 pm.
Divers recovered the bodies from the river after one hour of hectic efforts.
Later, police handed over the bodies to the deceased families after post mortem.
2 held with fake Indian currency

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two men with nearly counterfeit Indian currency worth 5 lakh rupees from Atrashia Beribandh area in Shibganj upazila yesterday.
The arrested persons were identified as Lalbar, 37, of Panka Dashrashia village and Sumon Reza, 30, of Gangarampur village in Shibganj upazila.
BGB officials said acting on secret information, a patrol team of BGB of Monakasha Border Out Post intercepted a motorcycle at Atrashia Beribandh at around 7-30 am and arrested the duo with the aforesaid fake rupees.
BGB members later handed them over to police.
49 held at Benapole border

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested 49 people while entering into the country from India illegally through Gatipara border in Benapole Port Police Station yesterday morning.
The arrestees include 11 men, 31 women and seven children—hailing from different areas of Narail, Khulna and Barisal districts.
Abdullahil Kafi, company commander of 26 BGB battalion of Benapole camp, said tipped off, a team of the border guards conducted a drive in the area and arrested them while they were trying to enter Bangladesh territory without valid documents around 6.00 am.
Later, the arrestees were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was filed in this connection.
78,000 litres of liquor seized
Bandarban: A mobile court recovered 78,000 liters of liquor from Aziznagar Marma Para in Lama upazila on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Tipped off, a team of the mobile court along with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a drive in the area and recovered 78,000 liters of liquor worth Tk 31,20,000 in the afternoon.
However, no one was arrested in this connection.
Man electrocuted in Satkhira

A school teacher was electrocuted at Mohollapara village in Tala upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam Gazi, 50, headmaster of Khanpur Government Primary School and son of late Ayujuddin Ahmad of the village.
Officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station Sagir Miah said Rabiul was electrocuted as he came in contact with a live electric wire while connecting the water pump in his house in the evening. He died on the spot.
Smuggled drugs destroyed
KUSHTIA: Smuggled drugs worth about Tk 3 crore were destroyed at Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp in Mirpur upazila yesterday, reports BSS
Kushtia BGB Sector Commander Colonel Mahabubur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Zahir Raihan and Superintendent of Police Proloy Chisim were present at the time of destroying the smuggled drugs.
