4 get life term for murder

A court here on Wednesday sentenced a man and three others to life term imprisonment for killing his elder brother over land dispute in 2005.

The convicts were identified as Ayat Ali, 65, of Bhatkandi area in the district town, Abdul Khalek, 25, Abdul Matin, 24, and Bulu Mia, 35, of Nandigram upazila in the district. Of them, Khalek, Matin and Bulu tried in absentia.
The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Ayat Ali had an enmity with his neighbour over a piece of land. As a sequel to the enmity, Ayat Ali along with three others called Abdur Rahman, elder brother of Ayat Ali, to a paddy field at Kuchma village in Nandigram upazila and strangled him to death to implicate his neighbour on April 25, 2005.
Police recovered the body from Bhatkandi area on the following day.  Later, Moklesur Rahman, elder brother of Ayat Ali filed a case with Sadar Police Station.
