Proper implementation for attaining SDGs stressed

RANGPUR: Proper implementation of the Local Government Strengthening Project (LGSP) would strengthen the local government bodies and ensure transparency in their activities to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs), reports BSS.
The view was expressed at a day-long workshop on attaining the set sustainable development goals organised by the upazila administration in Pirganj Upazila Parisahd auditorium on Wednesday.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Minu Sheel attended the workshop as the chief guest with Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamal Kumar Ghosh in the chair.
The speakers said that the field level administration could play a vital role in implementing the LGSP for achieving the set SDGs through proper monitoring and ensuring capacity of the local government bodies.
They stressed an enhanced participation of the common people with the functioning process of local government bodies in formulating and implementing pro-people and need-based policies and budgets to accelerate development in rural areas.
The chief guest put importance on increasing efficiency and capacity of the local government institutions and elected public representatives in preparing policies, strategies and work-plans for ensuring good governance and accountability.
Mayor of Pirganj municipality Abu Saleh and divisional facilitator of the LGSP Mohammad Musa attended the event as special guests. The upazila level government officials of different departments, chairmen of all union parishads under Pirganj upazila and civil society members attended the workshop.
