UNB

Two accused in a case for killing a schoolboy were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Darshana Shantipara in Damurhuda upazila early yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Sabuj, 24, son of late Hamidul Islam, and Shakil, 23, son of Abdul Kader Mondal, both residents of the upazila town and accused in the case for killing schoolboy Sajib.
Major Monir Ahmmed, deputy director of Jhenidah Rab-6 camp, said on secret information, a team of the elite force launched a drive at the village around 2.45am. Sensing the presence of the Rab team, Sabuj and Shakil along with their cohorts, opened fire at them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering a gunfight that left the duo injured. They were rushed to Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead. The elite force also recovered one shooter gun, one revolver, two sharp weapons and four rounds of bullets from the spot.
Earlier on September 16, another accused -- Rakibul Islam Member, 28, son of Emon Ali, a resident of Alukdia village of Sadar upazila -- in the case was killed in a reported gunfight with Rab at Gobindopur village of the upazila.
