One killed, 300 shops gutted in Rangamati fire

At least one person was killed and 300 shops and houses were gutted in a fire at Durchhari Bazar under Bagaichhari upazila early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Shikha Saha, 60. According to the locals, the fire originated from Sunil Dey’s bedding store around 12am.   As there was no fire station  in Baghaichhari, the firefighters from Khagrachhari were called but it could not reach the spot due to the inaccessible hilly roads. Later, BGB, army and police personnel along with the locals went to the spot and brought the fire under control. “The fire is under control, the estimated loss is around Tk40 crore and around 300 shops and houses were damaged,” Baghaichhari police sub-inspector Nazrul Islam said.
