The Bangladesh Embassy to Brazil has launched ‘Bangabandhu Fund’ to help the vulnerable children there. To this end, the embassy has partnered with a local NGO, Semente do Amanha (Seeds of Tomorrow), that works in the favelas of Bangu on the outskirts of Rio, where children are especially vulnerable to violence and drugs. The embassy and the NGO will celebrate the Bangladesh National Children’s Day, which falls on the birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on March 17 next year through an art workshop in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Bangladesh Ambassador to Brazil Mohamed Mijarul Quayes handed over the first cheque of financial contribution to the NGO on October 16. According to an embassy statement received yesterday, the idea of creating the fund, named after the Father of the Nation, aims at connecting the enduring legacy of Bangabandhu in Brazil.
