Mehedi Hasan Miraj showed the bright side of domestic cricket, stating that bowling 30 overs at a stretch in the local first class cricket helped him a lot on his first day at the International cricket.
The 18-year-old Mehedi, was handed the new ball in a strong show of faith and he wheeled his way through 33 overs in a formidable day's work. What was surprising was that he remained fresh even in the afternoon session as he continued bowling with perfection and precision.
“I played for Khulna Division in the National Cricket League. Abdur Razzak was my captain and I am grateful to him that he always keeps telling me what I should do when I will be in the national side,” Mehedi said.
“When I bowled 30/35 overs along with him in a day, he told me that when I will play for national team, I have to bowl at least 30 overs. So I was mentally prepared for the long spell. And the habit of bowling in long spell helped me enormously. Raz vai told me to keep the things simple. He also told me not to make any experiment.”
Mehedi also opened the bowling, something which could scare a new guy but he looked like a pro with the new ball.
“I am used to bowl with the new ball. You must see me bowling with Under-19 team with new ball. That was not distant past. So it’s not a problem for me. I enjoyed it in fact.”
