The abandoned conjoined twin newborns with two heads, four hands and two feet, died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday. Five days into their abandonment at the hospital, the twin baby boys breathed their last at the neonatal intensive care unit of the DMCH around 2:30am, Shahanur Islam, associate professor of paediatric surgery department, told The Independent. They had been suffering from breathing problem, the doctor said.
Two middle aged men came to the hospital with the infants and admitted them to the Pediatric Surgery unit of the hospital in the early hours on Saturday. But they left the hospital a few hours later, abandoning the newborn. They even did not give their identity in the admission form while admitting the twins.
The conjoined twins were admitted at Unit-2 of Ward-20 and bed no 14. The twins had a single genital organ and anal. In absence of guardians, they were initially kept under the supervision of ward master Zillur Rahman. On Tuesday, a 15-membered medical board was formed for the treatment of the twins.
