A legal notice was served yesterday on authorities concerned asking them to take necessary steps to ban using loud speakers, processions and meetings at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital, which is adjacent to the Supreme Court. Advocate Eunus Ali Akond, a Supreme Court lawyer, served the notice to the home secretary, inspector general of police and a registrar general of the Supreme Court asking them to take necessary steps to ban meetings at Suhrawardy Udyan. The notice mentioned that the environment is being damaged and the judicial functions of the apex court are hampered due to different programmes like processions and meetings held at the Suhrawardy Udyan.
Article 112 of the Constitution says, all authorities, executive and judicial, in the republic shall act in aid of the Supreme Court. But, the judicial function is being hampered due to the meetings and processions near the apex court, the notice said. Later, Akond told The Independent that he would file a writ petition with the High Court seeking necessary directives on the authorities concerned if they do not take a step in this regard.
