3,300 yaba tablets seized in Ctg
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in separate drives arrested 71 people from different areas in Chittagong city during the last 24 hours.
They also seized 3,300 pieces of yaba tablets, 100-liter liquor, 200-bottle phensidyle and 41-kilogram hemp during the drives, police said. Eight cases were filed with concerned police stations. Besides, CMP and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) filed 596 cases against different types of vehicles including 134 cases against CNG-run auto rickshaws for not obeying the metropolitan rules in the city during the last 24-hour. They also seized 47 vehicles including 35 CNG-run auto rickshaws during the drives, the release added.
Man killed by train in Gazipur
An unidentified man was killed when he was hit by a speeding train at Dheerasram rail crossing area in Gazipur city on Thursday.
Dadon Mia, sub-inspector of Dhirasram railway police camp, said the incident took place around 9 am when a Dhaka-bound ‘Dhumketu Express’ train from Rajshahi hit the man aged about 35 while crossing the rail tracks, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
2 illegal occupants fined Tk 1 lakh
A mobile court of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), in separate drives, on Wednesday fined Taka one lakh to two illegal occupants who run business after occupying CPA land.
CPA Executive Magistrate Rokeya Parvin along with police and CPA Ansar members conducted two drives in Khalurghat area and fined them TK 50 thousand each for running businesses after occupying CPA land. The CPA Executive Magistrate said the establishments were fined and evicted under Port Authorities Lands and Buildings (Recovery of Possession) Ordinance, 1962.
19 illegal gas lines disconnected
A vigilance team of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) conducting separate drives in the city’s Nalapara and Rahatarpol KB Aman Ali road areas disconnected 19 illegal residential gas lines on Wednesday.
During the drive KGDCL vigilance team filed regular case against Md Solaiman and Hazi Nur Ahmed for using illegal gas lines in home, said Md Kutubur Rahman, assistant officer (Publication Relation and Coordination).
During the drive KGDCL assistant engineer (Vigilance) Md Polash Sarkar and others KGDCL officials were present.
67 arrested in anti-drug drive
Detective branch (DB) of police arrested 67 people from different parts of the capital as part of the ongoing special drive against drug in last 24 hours till 6 yesterday morning.
They seized 651 pieces of yaba tablets, 520 gram heroin, 3.215 kilogram cannabis, 506 pieces of injection, 12 bottles of liquor, 120 bottles of phensidyl, 1330 pieces of seductive tablets and 16 cans of halua (sweetmeat) from their possessions, according to an official press release. Separate cases were lodged to this end.
68 people arrested in capital
The law enforcement agencies in its ongoing special anti-illegal drugs drives at different parts of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) area arrested 68 people for their alleged involvement in drug abuse in last 36 hours, said a press release on Wednesday.
“Different contraband items including some 1,862 pieces of yaba tablets, 516 grams of heroin, I.98 kgs of cannabis (ganja), 1,883 pieces of Buprenorphine injections and 220 bottles of phensidyl were seized from them,” the release added.
