Chinese lady promotes native tongue in Bangladesh

Qu Zhiwei graduated from the English Department of Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). Her husband is Bangladeshi. She followed her husband to Bangladesh 13 years ago and is currently dean of Yunnan Open University Bangladesh Distance Learning Centre (YOUBLC).

Three years ago, with a deep love of Chinese literature, Qu Zhiwei became a teacher of Chinese as a foreign language.Today, the job has completely changed her life.

 “I can never finish my work as long as I am awake,” said Qu Zhiwei. Busy as she is, Qu Zhiwei is satisfied with her meaningful life.

According to Qu Zhiwei, under the Belt and Road Initiative, Yunnan Open University (YOU)collaborated with Bangladesh Open University (BOU) in establishing YOUBLC. Over the past few years, YOUBLC established long-term cooperative relationships withseveral other Bangladeshi universities.

 “We provided stance Chinese language teaching through YOU’s information and communication technology and distance learning platform.Online multimedia courseware, classroom instruction and online individual studies are all effectively combined to help our students master Chinese,” said Qu Zhiwei.

During the interview, Qu Zhiwei showed the reporter her mobile phone. In the WeChat group “YOU Chinese”, Bangladeshi students were engaged in a heated discussion. They can seek help for the problems while completing their online homework, and can also practice new words, have a dialogue, and learn to sing Chinese songs.

So far, Qu Zhiwei has taught more than 200 Bangladeshi students. Among them are people from all walks of life, including students,teachers, government officials, businessmen and lawyers. They come to Qu Zhiwei’s online classroom with a common goal, to learn Chinese and interact with China. (Xinhua News Agency)
