The movie Operation Mekong, which depicts the Mekong Massacre and subsequent four-country joint law enforcement action, has become a recent sensation at Chinese movie theatres.
By the end of September, the fiftieth joint patrol was successfully completed. A major international joint law enforcement action conducted on a monthly-basis, the patrol is conducted by China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, safeguarding the stability of the Mekong River and the Golden Triangle area.
Five years ago, 13 Chinese sailors were killed in a shocking massacre. 26 days later after the massacre, a joint statement on law enforcement cooperation and security along the Mekong was signed by China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. One month later, the first joint Mekong law enforcement patrol set sail from Guanlei Port in southwest China’s Yunnan Province, marking the official inauguration of regular patrols.
Today, law enforcement authorities from the four countries have successfully completed 50 joint patrols, effectively safeguarding the security and stability of the Mekong.
