RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion yesterday unequivocally called for giving utmost emphasis on following precise standards in manufacturing products and providing services to build trust among consumers in general, reports BSS.
They viewed substandard and adulterated consumer items always pose serious threat to the public health as well the entire society. So, there is no alternative to ensure total quality of the products.
Regional Officer of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI) organised the discussion at Nanking Darbar Hall in the city to mark the 47th World Standard Day-20156, “Standards Build Trust” was the main theme of the discussion.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Hannan addressed the discussion as chief guest with ABM Mourtoza Hossain Shah, regional director of BSTI, in the chair.
During his keynote presentation, Engineer Nurul Islam, deputy director (Materials) of BSTI, narrated the significance of the day alongside highlighting aspects of standardisation of the consumer products.
Abdul Hannan suggested improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their operations, complying with legislative and regulatory requirements, safeguarding health and protecting the environment.
He called upon BSTI to intensify its market inspection and monitoring activities to tackle adulteration and stop the marketing of fake and substandard products.
“To meet the ever-increasing expectations, there is no way but to follow international standards in every step from manufacturing to distribution. People’s expectations are growing day by day with the development of technology. The fast growing information technology has made the whole world to stand before a strong challenge,” Abdul Hannan added.
Prof Shah Azam mentioned that the international standards facilitate everybody’s access to product, structures and services which include safety considerations, ergonomics and harmonised test methods.
