An exclusive musical programme titled ‘Tribute to Gazi Mazharul Anwar’--in honour of multi-talented Gazi Mazharul Anwar, a living legend at a time a film director, lyricist, music composer, screenplay writer, dialogue writer, producer and distributor--is set to be held tonight at a club in the capital. Initiated by Imrul Anwar, the younger brother of Mazharul Anwar, popular singers Kanak Chapa, Badshah Bulbul, Dithi Anwar and Apu will perform a number of 60 songs of Gazi Mahzarul Anwar in the programme.
For his special contribution to Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, mainly for its opening song ‘Joy Bangla Banglar Joy’, Mazharul Anwar was bestowed with the first President’s Award of Bangladesh. Afterwards, for his immense contribution to the cultural arena of the country, he was awarded the prestigious Ekushey Padak.
73-year-old Mazharul Anwar said about the programme in his honour tonight, “The programme is initiated by my younger brother Liton. From a family point of view, they have felt there might be a possibility that the thousand of songs written by me would be wiped away from the memory of the people. Because there is no such special archive made in the country to preserve the songs. Today’s programme is a part of the process and if it would be continued, our creations will keep reaching to the future generation.”
Singer Kanak Chapa said about performing at the programme, “I did playback with a song written by Gazi Mazharul for the first time in the film ‘Kheya Ghater Majhi’. After that, I was fortunate to sing a few more songs of him. But I want to reveal that I kept on singing his patriotic songs from my childhood those were rendered by Sabina Yasmin and Shahnaz Rahmatullah. He portrays the country in his all patriotic songs in a way that reads the mind of every countryman. It is my bad luck that I didn’t get opportunity of singing his many songs. This is a pleasurable and a proud moment for me that today I will perform in honour of him the songs written by him.”
Dithi Anwar said about his father, “Bangladesh is proud of my father, the world is proud of him and I am a daughter of this great person. What can be a greater achievement for me than this? Today, I will perform the songs written by my father. I seek everyone’s prayers that I can perform at the programme wonderfully.”
