Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh (CAAB) has banned carrying Samsung Galaxy Note-7 in aircraft following reports that the device caught fire in different places across the world, reports UNB.
A safety circular signed by Director (Flight Safety and Regulations) of the CAAB Wing Comannder Chy Md Zia Ul Kabir has already been sent to heads of all airlines based in the country.
“You are directed to ensure that no passenger is allowed to board an aircraft with Samsung Galaxy Note-7, as carry-on and or checked luggage,” the safety circular, which was issued on October 17, said.
“You are also requested to inform passengers about this prohibition while selling ticket,” the safety circular said adding that this circular will come into effect immediately.
Samsung Note-7 banned on Biman flights. Earlier it was reported by BBC that Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has been banned by more airlines over fire risk.
Carriers in Australia, Asia and Europe put the phone on a prohibited list over the weekend, which comes after the US banned the device
last week. Carriers flying to the US inevitably had to follow suit, but the bans are spreading worldwide. In addition to several flag carriers taking action, Air Berlin, Dragonair and Virgin.
Qantas and its discount carrier Jetstar said in a statement: “The ban applies to devices being carried onto the aircraft, in carry-on baggage as well as check-in luggage.”
Virgin Australia issued a similar announcement, but added that passengers were “strongly advised” not to bring the Note 7 phone to airports.
