3rd JU Math Olympiad Oct 21
SAVAR: The Jahangirnagar University Science Club (JUSC) in association with the Mathematics department of JU is going to organise the 3rd Math Olympiad 2016 on October 21 (Friday) as a part of its social activities.
At least 2500 students form more than 40 schools of Savar, Nabinagar and Dhaka metropolitan areas will participate in this programme.
The director of Dr Wajed Miah Research Institute of Jahangirnagar University (JU) and prominent scientist Prof Khabir Uddin is expected to inaugurate the event.
The Olympiad exam will be held at Jahangirnagar University School and College into two shifts.
Mentionable, JUSC is one and only science based social organisation at JU campus which is working among the students of Schools, college and university level dreaming to form a science based society.
Lecture on chemical weapons held at DU
A special lecture on ‘Past Successes and Future Challenges for Global Chemical Disarmament’ organized by the University of Dhaka (DU) was held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the university campus on Tuesday.
Vice-Chancellor of DU AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the function while Director General of Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Ahmet Uzumcu delivered the lecture.
Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof Md Abdul Aziz and Chairperson of the Department of Chemistry Prof Nilufar Nahar also addressed it. DU Acting Registrar Md Enamuzzaman conducted the program.
Prof Arefin called upon all the scientists and chemists to come forward with their active support and participation for making the world free from chemical weapons.
All chemists must make the pledge to themselves that they would never participate in any research activities aimed at making chemical weapons, he said. We must develop our capabilities for production, storage and proper use of the chemicals, he added.
The vice-chancellor urged all to keep in mind of the fact that chemicals do not fall in wrong hands like terrorist groups.
He also thanked the OPCW authorities for their successful disarmament efforts.
OPCW Director General Ahmed Uzumcu urged all to work together for making the world free from chemical weapons.
He praised the Bangladesh government for the contribution to establish peace and security in international arena.
