Killing inside Holey Artisan Bakery

Punishment would ensure for all involved : Law minister

Law minister Anisul Huq said that exemplary punishment would ensure for all those who were involved in committing the gruesome killing incident inside the Gulshan’s Holey Artisan Bakery.

“We have taken initiative to bring the perpetrators under the justice. If needed, we would take more initiative to ensure the exemplary punishment for the perpetrators,” the law minister made the observation while holding a meeting with Japan Justice Minister Katsutoshi Kaneda in Tokyo on Monday.
On July 1, gunmen stormed Gulshan’s Holey Artisan Bakery and took guests and employees hostage. Twenty bodies, including nine of Italians and seven Japanese nationals, were recovered from the crime scene the following day after conducting an army-led joint forces’ operation – ‘Operation Thunderbolt’. 
During the meeting, Japan Justice Minister Katsutoshi Kaneda assured the Bangladesh law minister to help the government to modernise the judiciary by giving training to the judicial officials.
Kaneda said Japan government will provide all sorts of assistance to modernise the judiciary of Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh law minister held another meeting with Shinichi Kitaoka, president of JICA at its headquarters. The JICA president assured Anisul Huq about continuing their cooperation in the development of Bangladesh.
Law minister assured the JICA president about providing impeccable security to its representatives working in different development projects and about providing legal assistances to Japanese investors in Bangladesh.
Legislative and parliamentary affairs division secretary Shahidul Haque, law and justice division secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Mohammad Zahirul Haque, joint secretary Bikash Kumar Saha, minister’s personal secretary M Masum were, among others, present in the meeting.
Anisul Huq left Dhaka to visit Japan on October 11 and he is expected to return home today.
During his visit, the law minister also had meetings with mayor of Hiroshima Matsui Kazumi, Osaka Chief Prosecutor Kazumine Terawaki, Justice Toshimitsu Yamazaki of Japanese Supreme Court and director general of Legal Training and Research Institute of Japan Sakuma Tatsuya, among others.
