Speakers at view exchange meeting yesterday put emphasis on the need to take coordinated effort by concerned ministries and directorates to reduce child labour in the country.
The government has already taken specific plan of action to reduce child labour but their effective implementation is necessary, they said while speaking the meeting at IPD conference room in Parliament Building.
The meeting was informed that about 1.3m children are involved in different child labour of them about 0.42m children are working domestic aides.
The speakers said the government should take a specific plan of action to turn child labour into skilled manpower.
Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF) organised the meeting in assistance with Delhi-based organisaiton Global March Against Child Labour in a bid to gaining child labour related objectives of Sustainable Development Goals.
Deputy Speaker Advocate Md Fazle Rabbi Miah, who addressed, the meeting as the chief guest said the government has political commitment and willingness in stopping child labour in the country.
He called upon all to stop appointing child labour in their own homes first.
Presided over by BSAF chairperson Emranul Haque Chowdhury, the meeting also addressed, among others, by Israfil Alam, MP, Poet Kazi Rosy, MP , Nazmul Haque Prodhan and BSAF director Abdus Shahid Mahmud.
Abdullah Al Mamun, programme coordinator of Manusher Jonne Foundation, presented a keynote paper in the meeting.
