Eminent jurists and bureaucrat have hailed Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha’s observation regarding the criticism of judiciary. Former law minister Abdul Matin Khasru said the chief justice’s remark on the issue of criticism of judiciary is correct.
“The country’s judiciary is completely independent. The judges are delivering verdicts independently. Anyone can criticise the institution within the law and the criticism will have to be constructive so that it would not harm the system,” he said.
Eminent jurist Shahdeen Malik said, “The judiciary and the verdict of the court can be criticised but no judge should be attacked personally. If a Judge is flayed personally, it will be tantamount to the contempt of the court.” “Many people don’t have sufficient knowledge on legal affairs. So, when they criticise the verdict, they personally attack the judge. From legal point of view, a verdict can be criticised but not the judge.”
Former Advisor to the caretaker government Dr. Akbar Ali Khan said, “The chief justice has said correctly. The judiciary can be subjected to criticism but it should be done in a fair and responsible way.”
