Girls team event of Sheikh Russel School Table Tennis Tournament reached the semifinal stages on the opening day of the meet Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Gymnasium in the capital yesterday.
Ten matches were held in girls’ group on Tuesday. Narail Government Girls High School became Group A champions beating Strive International School , while Pabna Technical School overwhelmed Rajshahi Education Board Model School to bag top spot of Group-B. Now the two group champions and runners-up will face in the semifinals.
On other hand 16 matches were decided in boy group on the day. A total of 30 schools are taking part in the boys’ team event.
Later Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed inaugurated the tournament as chief guest. Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation president Abdul Karim
was also present.
Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra is organizing the tournament to mark the 52nd birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
