Khalekuzzaman Sabuj converted a late penalty as Uttar Baridhara celebrated their second win in the JB Bangladesh Premier Division League football when they defeated Mohammedan Sporting Club by a solitary goal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
After obtaining the second victory Baridhara improved their points tally to six from 11 matches and climbed to 11th position from the bottom side.
Baridhara suffered 10 defeats at a stretch, as they were staying at the bottom side with three points, they earned with their upsetting win against Sheikh Russel in the opening match and obtained another valuable three points defeating the giants Mohammedan.
Mohammedan, who have been passing a frustrating time this season. As the traditional giants it was really frustrating for their fans to remain winless in nine matches in a row. They had a significant victory in the 10th encounter with defeating the table toppers and the reigning champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
But the agony of the Black and White extended further with the defeat against Baridhara.
However, the Motijheel outfit, who played outstanding tactical game to halt the stronger opponents Jamal in the previous match, played mostly with counter attack strategy building up the game from back, appeared on the day with full offensive mood right from the first whistle.
Shahadat Hossain Shahed could bring the lead for Mohammedan in the very second minute but failed to connect a combined move of Patrice and Masuk Meah Jony despite rushing inside the area.
Baridhara, who took time to build up their game, came to share the ball possessions evenly, produced two half chances with Sentu Chandra Sen threatened to take a powerful long range right footer on 22nd minute.
Mohammedan again came closer to take lead on 34th minute but this time it was just the credit of a compact Baridhara defense line to deny the attempts when two consecutive efforts of Masuk Meah Jony and Towhidul Alam Shabuj messed up from the goal mouth. After the goalless first half, both sides looked more hostile to score goals and Baridhara drew the first blood after the break with Sentu Chandra Sen wasting the day’s easiest chance as this forward looked shaky during taking a shot into an open post.
But the Blue sides from Baridhara area broke the deadlock on 81st minute with Khalekuzzaman converting a penalty (1-0).
