On the occasion of the 52nd birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a five-day film festival titled ‘Sheikh Russel National Children’s Film Festival’ has been organised for the first time by the central office of Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
With the slogan ‘Chalachitra Hok Shishur Swapner Moto Rongin’ (Films be colourful like children’s dream), the curtain will rise on the festival today simultaneously in all eight divisions of the country. The festival aims to inspire the country’s children and teenager towards life-oriented positive manners by spreading the spirit of Liberation War among them. The festival will continue till October 22.
State Minister for Women and Children Meher Afroz Chumki will inaugurate the festival as chief guest today at 3pm at the Shishu Academy auditorium in the capital. Besides, convener of the festival committee and Shishu Academy chairman noted litterateur Selina Hossain, member secretary of the festival committee and Shishu Academy director Mosharraf Karim, veteran filmmaker Syed Salahuddin Zaki, Morshedul Islam, actor Raisul Islam Asad, actress Rokeya Prachi, Sadia Afreen along with eminent poet-writers, journalists, cultural activists will also be present in the inaugural ceremony of the festival. A total of 22 screenings of 17 films will be held during the five-day festival. On the opening day, today, several films will be screened; these are Arafat-bin-Jahangir’s ‘Bhorer Jatra’, Ashraf Shishir’s ‘Gariwala’, Kazi Shahedur Rahman’s ‘Soldier’, Tanim Shahriar’s ‘Digital Question’, Bijoy Karmakar’s ‘Du-talar Galpo’ and Prince Roman Pew’s ‘Anukaran’.
