A court yesterday convicted three people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for killing a minor boy in 2009.
The convicts were identified as Shahjahan Fakir, his wife Anwara Begum and their son Solaiman Fakir, inhabitants of Kawarchar village of Kalapara upazila. They tried in absentia.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Mobashwer Mridha of Dhulashwar village in Kalapara upazila had an enmity with his neighbour Solaiman Fakir over irrigating water to a watermelon field. As a sequel to the enmity, Solaiman Fakir took Shakil, 10, son of Mobashwer Mridha to his home tactfully on April 24, 2009. Later Shakil was found dead near Kawarchar area on the following day.
Shakil’s mother Zesmin Akhter filed a case against six people in this connection.
Later, SI Maniruzzaman submitted chargesheet on January 8, 2010 against three persons.
After examining records and witnesses Patuakhali Additional District and Session Judge Mostafa Pavel Haider handed down the verdict.
