Nationalisation of college demanded

Teachers and students of Phulbaria Degree College in Mymensingh observed a half-day hartal at upazila headquarters yesterday demanding nationalisation of the college as it has all the facilities similar to that of the government colleges.At least five persons, including Iqbal Hossain, a teacher of the college were injured when police allegedly charged baton on a procession during the hartal. They were given first aid. After police action, the teachers and students blocked the main road and burnt tires in realization of their demand. The protesters also burnt an effigy of the college principal and ransacked his office.Established in 1971, the institution runs honours in seven subjects, they said.
