Two beaten to death

Two men were beaten to death in separate incidents in Ashashuni and Sadar upazilas on Friday.
 Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Ashashuni police station, said Aminur Rahman, 35, of Badartala village had given Tk 5 lakh as loan to Israfil of Kadakati village. As Aminur failed to realise the money, he hired Jakir to get back the money. Later, Jakir put pressure on Israfil to pay the money immediately. As a sequel to this, Israfil along with his brother Dalim and nephew Nahid swooped on Jakir on Friday night and beat him up mercilessly, leaving him critically injured. Later, he died around 11:30pm.
 In another incident, Abdul Mazid, 56, was beaten to death allegedly by his rival Anisur and others over family feud at Khanpur village in Sadar upazila on Friday night.

Juba League leader attacked
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Patuakhali

A group of criminals, numbering 10 to 12, broke both the legs of Juba League leader at Dhulia launch terminal in Bauphal upazila yesterday in an attack linked to a recent leasing of Dhulia launch terminal.
 The Juba League leader has been identified as Md. Humayun Kabir, 38. The criminals after maiming the legs threw kabir into the river. Later, locals rescued him from the river and sent him to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.  Victim’s family sources said Humayun Kabir had enmity with Khalilur Rahman alias Bridge Khalil since long over the lease of Dhulia launch terminal. On June 30 night, Bridge Khali called Kabir to Dhulia launch terminal in order to negotiate the matter. But his men there broke both his legs with hammer.
Phensidyl, liquor seized
Members of Border guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives recovered 108 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup and 99 bottles of liquor from Jibannagar and Damurhuda upazilas early yesterday, reports UNB.
Tipped off, a team of the border force conducted a drive at Gayeshpur village in Jibannagar upazila and recovered 108 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup worth Tk 43,200 at about 2 am, said a press release.  However, none was arrested in this connection.
