Bangladesh Telecommuni-cation Regulatory Com-mission (BTRC) has asked all mobile phone subscri-bers not to provide personal and biometric SIM registration-related information to fraudsters seeking over phone, reports UNB.
The BTRC issued a notice in this regard yesterday.
According to the notice, fraud/criminal gangs are taking away customers’ personal and biometric SIM-related information, and PINs of mobile financial accounts, including bKash, through making phone calls and sending SMSs in the name of BTRC officials and different mobile phone operators.
It said the fraudsters are using numbers of different mobile phone operators and BTRC landline number +8802961111 and hotline +8801555121121 cloning those through illegal technology.
They are also making calls and sending SMSs using the names—BTRC, BD info, Bangladesh info, BTRC info—on the mobile screens.
Mentioning that BTRC is not making any call or sending any SMS seeking personal and biometric SIM registration-related information, the notice urged all to remain alert in this regard.
It also urged all to lodge complaint to the BTRC call centre dialing 2871 or sending through email at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> and consumer.i [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> if they notice such incident.
Steps were being taken to arrest the offenders after identifying them, the notice added.
