Barisal District Bus Owners Association and Barisal District Road Transport Labour Union will go on indefinite transport strike in all routes from Barisal from October 28 if the authority failed to stop plying three-wheeler from the highway with stipulated time.
The decision came from a meeting held in this regards with Aftab Hosen in the chair.
Azizur Rahman Shaheen, president of Barisal-Patuakhali Bus Owners Association said local administration failed to stop plying of illegal transport on the highway. That’s why road accidents on the highway are increasing day by day. We are holding meeting in all the district of Barisal division trying to start the strike at a time.
On the other hand, they demanded to stop giving all types registration and fitness certificates, to removed all stands of microbus, tempoo, mahendra and easybike from Barisal central bus stand, to ensure all the facilities in transport sector, set up CC camera in Barisal central bus stand for the security of the passengers and decrease rate of the token fee, fitness fee.
According to District Bus Owners’ Association and Transport Labor Union sources that they observed indefinite bus strike in all long routes, internal routes and sub-routes of Barisal demanding stop plying of illegal transport in different highways several times earlier but authority failed to ensure their demand.
They claimed that without any registration, fitness certificate, route permit and not paying tax to the government, about over 3,000 Mishuk, Tomtom, Alfa-mahendra, Easy Byke, Nasimon and trucks carrying passenger plying all the internal and long routes illegally. That’s why passenger buses of long route have been facing closer incurring regular financial loss.
