Bangladesh to play ten practice matches with Poland, Austria

Ahead of the Asian Cup qualifying round, 10 hockey players accompanied by three officials are due to leave Dhaka today at 6am for Berlin to join their other nine teammates for higher training and to play preparation matches.

Meanwhile, in a bid to qualify in the Asian Cup Hockey, Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) has taken the initiative to prepare the team in Germany and have already sent nine players last month and another 10 players are going today.   
Shafi Ullah Al Munir, vice-president of the BHF, informed the reporters yesterday in a press conference that the players will play nine practice matches against Poland and Austria.
Munir said that they have already set up all to arrange the matches and the all accommodations for the players to travel Poland and Austria from Germany.
Munir informed that they have settled for five matches against Poland on October 19, 20, 21, 22 and 24 and four against Austria on 26, 28, 29 and 30th October.
The vice-president replying to a query said, “We have been doing our best to prepare the team for the Hong Kong competition where I think we have no option but to be champions, so in accordance with our limited ability we are providing all the facilities. We have appointed a five-man foreign coaching staff including three coaches, a physio and a video analyst.”
All the 19 players will return home by October 6 and after their returned there will be training sessions at home for one week before departing for Hong Kong while they joined 16 players at home and from 35 players they will select the final 18-man squad.      
The Asian Qualifying round will take place in Hong Kong from November 19-27.
Nine players, who are going today in Germany are – Ashraful, Roman Sarkar, Arshad, Zahid, Asim Gope, Kamruzzaman Rana, Mohammed Milon, Pushkar Khisha Mimo and Khorshedur Rahman while Mahbub Harun, Arful Haque Prince and Ehsan Rana are the three officials.
