Locals demand arrest of killers

Residents of Bhowanipur village in Wazirpur Upazila held a demonstration in the area yesterday demanding the arrest of killers of Shahidul Alam, 40, a van puller.
Shahidul was killed on Thursday allegedly by his cousin Alauddin Hannan alias Hannan Mahori over a land dispute. According to neighbours, Hannan got engaged in an altercation with Shahidul on Thursday at about 6pm over a land dispute. At one point, Hannan hit Shahidul in the head leaving him dead.
After conducting the post-mortem examination, police handed over the body of the deceased to the family Friday afternoon.
Bakul Begum, wife of the victim, filed a case over the murder with Wazirpur Police Station against three people including Hannan.
Locals of the area held a demonstration and formed a human chain on Wazirpur- Shatla road for two hours demanding arrest of the killers.
Nurul Islam, officer in-charge of Wazirpur police station, said they were conducting drives to arrest the killers.
