A student of the Dhaka University was killed and four people were injured in a road accident at Shibnagar-Gulshanmour in Kaliganj upazila yesterday afternoon.
Deceased Aminur Rahman, 25, of Churamonkathi-Baghdanga village in Jessore sadar upazila, was a master’s student of Peace and Conflict Studies department of the university.
Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj police station Anwar Hossain said the accident took place in the area at 12 noon when a Kaliganj-bound human hauler carrying five passengers hit a stationary truck, leaving Aminur dead on the spot and four other passengers identified as Abdus Sattar, 55, Mini, 40, Ritu, 20 and Ikbar, 40, of Baliadanga village, injured.
Local people rushed the injured to Kaliganj health complex. Later, they were referred to Jessore General Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Our Madaripur correspondent adds: A bank official was killed in a road accident at Kamaldi in Rajoir upazila on Dhaka-Barisal highway yesterday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Golam Faruk, 35, manager of Agrani Bank of Agorpur branch of Barisal and an inhabitant of Batajor in Gournadi upazila of Barisal district.
Police said the accident took place at about 3 pm when a pick-up van carrying him overturned and fell into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the stearing.
