Injured AL leader dies

Comilla: An Awami League leader, who was allegedly hacked by a group of Chhatra League in Monohorganj upazila on June 29, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Tongi of Gazipur yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Yakub Ali, former general secretary of Keari village unit of AL in Monohorganj upazila.
Police said an altercation took place between BCL activists Harunur Rashid Babu and Selim Mian at Keari village in the afternoon on June 29 over buying cucumber. Following the incident, about 8-10 BCL activists, launched an attack on the houses of Babu’ s father and his relatives.  As Selim’s brother Yakub tried to resist the attackers, they hacked them indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him seriously injured. He was shifted to a  hospital in Tongi where he died yesterday.
