The High Court yesterday banned chairman Bidhan Biswas of Kadambari union parishad under Rajoir Police Station in Madarpur from holding his office as he is accused in a human trafficking case and went into hiding, reports BSS.
The court also issued a rule asking as to why the accused shall not be removed from his chair as the case against him is currently pending before the Dhaka chief metropolitan magistrate court. A High Court division bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Md Salim passed the order following a writ filed in this regard by a voter of that concerned union.
According to the plea, Dhaka chief metropolitan magistrate court on May 22, 2014, declared Bidhan fugitive in the said case. But he contested and got elected in the election by keeping the matter of fact that arrest warrant has been issued against him in a criminal case.
Earlier, the High Court ordered to arrest Bidhan within seven days for cutting down trees owned by the government and holding human chain against a High Court Judge.
