Demolition of illegal structures ordered

Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain has ordered for demolition of all illegal structures on the banks of Buriganga and Turag rivers without any notice.
He also ordered mapping out their numbers and submit their lists within 7 days and asked also to prepare a list of filled up wet lands along the rivers and take measures accordingly stressing that under wetland conservation act it must be strictly adhered to without any fail. The ministerial fiat came at a meeting at the Housing and PWD Ministrys meeting room on the illegally sprouted establishments yesterday.
The meeting was attended among others by the Secretary of the Housing and PWD Ministry Mohammad Shahidullah Khandaker, RAJUK Chairman M Bazlul Karim Choudhury, Joint Secretary of the Ministry Mohammad Akhter Hossain, Member (Development) of RAJUK Mohammad Abdur Rahman. Engr Mosharraf Hossain further told the officials that when RAJUK approves a permission of layout for a building, the concerned official must be present. The concerned should show cause if there is any discrepancy in the layout. In this connection the PWD Minister ordered for preparation of a list of those who had constructed buildings deviating from the approved design.
He also ordered for demolishing the sections of the high rise buildings built beyond the approved designs after preparing a list of those building owners who raised the buildings changing the plans. The PWD Minister further asked the WASA and Power Division to see that after construction of buildings nobody should get any service facilities without approved documents of occupancy.
