State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam on Sunday sought coordinated efforts to address the problems of irregular migration for ensuring a safe and dignified world for all migrants, reports UNB.
Its time to build a safe world for all migrants by addressing the irregular migration problems, he told a function in the capital.
Emphasising orderly migration, the State Minister said a well-managed migration can help both sending and recipient countries as the migrants play an important role in socioeconomic development of both ends.
He sought support from all stakeholders for successful implementation of all the initiatives at national, regional and international levels through designing proper work plans.
Shahriar Alam said there is a wider scope for the civil society, non-government organisations to act in addressing the irregular or illegal migration.
He also said the media can also play a role in creating awareness among people so that they can take right decisions by analysing cost-effectiveness of taking such an attempt to go abroad allured bybrokers.
Home Secretary Dr Md Mozzammel Haque Khan and Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) Executive Director Shaheen Anam, among others, spoke on the occasion.
The Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) arranged the event titled Irregular Labour Migration from Bangladesh: Crises and Ways Forward at Cirdap auditorium in the capital.
Highlighting government initiatives, the State Minister said the 9th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) will be held here on December 8-12.
Were expecting a constructive dialogue on all aspects of migration during the forum, he said.
