The fifth edition of ‘Ganga-Jamuna theatre and cultural festival’ (Ganga-Jamuna Natya O Sangskritik Ustab 2016) will begin on October 21 on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital. DhakaLive has news that this year’s festival has been dedicated to late writer-author Syed Shamsul Haq who passed away last month.
In this connection, written by Syed Shamsul Haq, the plays titled ‘Payer Awaj Paua Jay’, ‘Tora Sob Joyodwani Kor’, ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Irsha’ will be staged at the festival. The festival will also feature drama, recitation, dance and street-drama, while a total of 85 troupes from both Bangladesh and India will participate.
Before staging the play, two artistes from recitation and music will perform everyday on the open premises of BSA. Noted Indian Theatre personalities Debshankar Haldar and Probir Guha are expected to attend the inaugural ceremony of the festival. Aiming at consolidating the harmony between Bangladesh and India through cultural exchange, Bangladesh Committee of Ganga-Jamuna Natyautsab Parshad has organised the nine-day festival. Funded by Cultural Ministry of Bangladesh, India-Bangladesh Foundation and BSA, the festival has been scheduled to take place from October 21 to 30.
