Four suspected militants out of 11 killed in separated drives in Gazipur and Tangail districts on Saturday were identified yesterday. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police said the four were identified as Saiful Islam Babul of Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj, Ibrahim, a resident of Dhaka’s Bangshal area, Ahsan Habib of Naogan and Aminul Ehsan of Joypurhat. They said Saiful, Ibrahim, Ahsan were killed in two Gazipur raids and Aminul was killed in Tangail drive.
Police said family members of Saiful and Ibrahim identified the bodies seeing the photos of the slain militants published in different newspapers.
“Necessary steps will be taken after scrutinising their claim,” Gazipur’s superintendent of police, Harun-or-Rashid, said a press briefing at his office yesterday afternoon.
Ibrahim’s father Azimuddin said Ibrahim, a student of a local madrasah, went missing three months ago. A general diary was also lodged with the police station concerned in this connection, he said. He also demanded punishment of those who made his innocent son a militant.
With these two, the SP said, three of the militants out of the seven killed in the Patertek drive, have been identified so far. Meanwhile, RAB Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan claimed yesterday evening that they identified Ahsan Habib and Aminul Ehsan. On Saturday, 11 suspected militants, including Neo JMB military commander Akash, were killed during drives conducted at Patartek and Harinail of Gazipur and two others in Kagmara of Tangail. UNB adds: The bodies of nine suspected militants, who were killed in operations by law enforcers at their dens at Harinal and Patertek of Gazipur city on Saturday, were shifted to Kurmitola General Hospital from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMH) on Monday night.
The bodies were transferred to Kurmitola General Hospital around 11 pm as there is no enough space at the DMCH mortuary to preserve those, said hospital sources. Earlier, the nine bodies were taken to the DMCH from Gazipur around 8:45 pm for keeping those at its mortuary, said DMCH police camp in-charge sub-inspector Bachchu Miah. On Sunday, autopsies were conducted on the bodies of the nine suspected militants at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur.
